In the industrial production environment, reliability, precision, and dynamics are more important than ever. Advances in these three areas can be made above all through innovative gear solutions. In Hameln in Lower Saxony, we develop, produce, assemble, and test our low backlash precision planetary gearboxes using completely new technologies. The company’s origins can be traced back to the Stephan-Werke founded in 1908. After decades of successfully developing and manufacturing large industrial gearboxes, we started developing the first precision gearboxes for robotics in 1985. A project for a new kind of low-backlash precision planetary gearbox ultimately led to the carve-out and establishment of Melior Motion GmbH. In 2022, the company was acquired by Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG and renamed Schaeffler Ultra Precision Drives GmbH.

With over 30 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of high-precision, low-backlash precision gearboxes, we have not only patented but incorporated the especially compact PSC range of precision gearboxes into the portfolio with great success and developed it to market and production readiness. PSC stands for ‘precise’, meaning the highest precision available on the market, ‘silent’ for the lowest noise level, and ‘constant’ for a constant level of precision during its operating life. Our PSC gearboxes outperform previous toothed gear mechanisms and are used wherever there is a requirement for maximum precision, positioning accuracy, compactness, and a long service life.
