JAKOB power clamping spindles for face and clamping disks on vertical, horizontal, center, face and
roll lathes as well as grinding and special machines are designed for the highest demands and maximum
workpiece weights with the greatest possible operational reliability. They are primarily suitable for
installation in claw boxes or for direct mounting in faceplates of turning, grinding and
special machines.

• very high clamping forces
• maximum operational reliability
• high power clamping thrust
• simple operation and assembly
Hydromechanical spring tensioning systems PDF General
The hydromechanical spring tensioning systems work mechanically and hydraulically in interaction. The
clamping force is applied mechanically by a preloaded plate spring package. The hydraulics are only
required for the release stroke of the elements, which releases the tie rod or pressure bolt. This
system ensures a high level of operational reliability, since the clamping force
is always maintained at full level, regardless of the oil pressure or leakage losses.
Properties:
• clamp mechanically – release hydraulically
• maximum operational reliability
• leak-proof and robust
• economical clamping technology
Force measurement
The holding force of a clamping device in the mechanical processing of workpieces is a criterion of
outstanding importance. It is crucial for the processing quality as well as for the
safety of the machine operator, the workpiece and the machine tool.

Clamping elements or clamping technology from JAKOB Antriebstechnik are used wherever workpieces or tools have to be secured safely and with high clamping forces. Thanks to sophisticated technology, all of our clamping elements enable the application of enormous clamping forces, which can hardly be achieved with conventional clamping devices or only with great effort. The tightening torques for our mechanical clamping devices are multiplied by our patented power amplifiers, while the clamping forces for the other assemblies are generated hydraulically, hydro-mechanically or pneumatically. Our range of clamping elements also includes products that allow clamping forces to be reliably measured, with the Force Monitoring System (FMS) even during the actual work processes.
Purely mechanical clamping elements can be found in our power clamping nuts and screws. These products are able to replace their conventional versions (conventional nuts and bolts) and make work much easier, especially when high clamping forces are absolutely necessary. This means that there is no need for expensive and large tools, massive clamping forces can be achieved thanks to the power amplifier with an Allen key (series MDA), wrench (series MCA, MCG, SC) or by hand and integrated star or T-handle (series MCA-S or MCA -T) can be reached. However, JAKOB recommends the use of torque wrenches in order not to exceed the permissible nominal tightening torque and damage the mechanics. When used properly, mechanical clamping elements are maintenance-free.
Power clamping spindles from JAKOB Antriebstechnik are used to generate clamping forces in face plates or jaw boxes and are offered in mechanical (MSP and MSPD series) and hydro-mechanical (HSP series) versions. They replace solid spindles and make it possible to build up the required clamping forces much more easily and efficiently.
Hydromechanical spring tensioning systems (ZSF and ZDF series), or so-called spring tensioning and spring pressure cylinders, work with a combination of mechanics and hydraulics. The clamping forces are applied mechanically by disk spring assemblies, the expensive hydraulic pressure is only required to release the cylinders. This brings with it another significant advantage: the clamping elements remain securely clamped even if the pressure drops, so safety is not jeopardized. Hydromechanical spring clamping systems are suitable for carriage or tailstock clamping.
There are also hydromechanical versions of our power clamping nuts, which enable clamping forces that exceed those of the mechanical versions many times over. Depending on the thread size, the “heavy-duty” version of our power clamping nut HMP generates up to 3250 kN, which is always secured by a lock ring in the versions for the heaviest applications. The hydraulic pressure in power clamping nuts of the HMP and HMP-HD series is generated by hand or foot pumps, while those of the HMG series are operated directly via pressure screws on the power clamping nut.
